Invisible dog fencing for Labradoodles – A Good Mix?

“I heard that hidden fences don’t work for labradoodles. Is this really true?” asks Tom of East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

Many people like Tom are worried that their labradoodle has the drive and pain tolerance to run through an electric dog fence. Good news Tom, when done correctly Labradoodles like yours, or any breed, can be dependably trained to honor the containment boundaries.

Yes, labradoodles can be headstrong and willful at times. All dogs and all breeds of dogs have their own different personalities and physical characteristics but that is not to say that they cannot be successfully trained. That is the main concept: If your dog can be trained to do anything else, it can be trained to stay within the bounds of an hidden dog fence.

Labradoodles, being a hybrid, can have a range of temperaments. So for those of you who have the most stubborn or strong willed dog we can say, it is still possible for an hidden dog fence to work for you. Each dog is different and if you have a more difficult dog the process may take longer, but it will be completed. Your dog may be stubborn, but he’s not stupid. All dogs, and in fact all animals are programed to avoid pain. The most confusing part both to the dog and the owner is to recognize that the concept of avoiding something he can’t see will take proper training, distractions and time. With these even the most headstrong labradoodle will  learn that it has free reign within the boundaries and will avoid the boundaries and leaving the yard.

Tom, although training may be one simple word, but it requires patience and, in most cases, professional help with the containment training.  You can learn more about what’s necessary for proper and complete training of your labradoodle HERE.
