Electric Dog Fence Wire- The Big Difference

Looking to keep your dog safe in Massachusetts or Rhode Island? Contain My Dog Contain & Train provides a helpful look at one of the most overlooked parts of an electric dog fence.

When choosing an electric dog fence sometimes a picture is worth more than a thousand words. It’s worth making a good decision. A decision that will keep a dog safe and make your life a bit easier.

Let’s face it most folks don’t start digging around their yard to look at their hidden dog fence wire.

However, the dog fence wire is one of THE most important parts of any successful pet fence system. The better choice you make before you have one installed the easier your life will be after it’s installed.

Why does the dog fence wire makes a difference?

First, its (the underground wire) the most difficult component of a containment system to find out where a problem is, and its the most time consuming to replace. Replacing a collar or the transmitter (the two other major parts of a dog fence) take only minutes to replace. Finding out where the wire is nicked or damaged can be an afternoon or full day of frustration.

Second. The dog fence wire is what carries provides for a dependable signal. The more substantial the wire the more dependable the signal.

Third. Most problems with dog fences are from either broken (less common), nicked (most common), or cracked underground containment wire. As shown in the picture above most every ‘off the shelf’ containment system has thin wire with a very thin protective layer.Even a nick in the insulation of the containment wire can cause problems. Usually as the most difficult times when there’s rain or snow.

Fourth- Do you really want to be trying to find a crack in a small wire around your yard in January?

Fact: copper is expensive. Its not cheap to put a heavy duty cable in the ground. But like most things in life you can have it cheap and receive the work that comes with that or you can do it right from the beginning. The company I founded decided long ago (when copper was relatively inexpensive) that it was worth the extra to not only reduce problems but keep your family dog safe. Isn’t that why we invest in the Electric Dog Fence to begin with?
