Is the EDF right for all dogs

Is the EDF right for all dogs

Casey Hi this is Casey Conrad with Contain My Dog and today I’d like to address a question that we frequently get and that is, “Is the electric dog fence the right solution for all dogs?” Now my answer may surprise you because it’s actually no.There are 2 situations where we feel an electric dog fence isn’t a good fit for you and your Number 1 is an aggressive dog and this is pretty obvious, right? Does your dog have a bite history? I’m not talking about puppy nipping here. Has your dog bitten anyone or are you concerned enough about your dog’s behavior or
demeanor that you maybe put him or her away when someone visits or you don’t like the dog to be outside playing with the neighbor’s children? That might be a reason for concern. Now I don’t want you to gross generalize dog breed
with dog aggression.Sometimes people think oh it’s a German Shepherd or it’s a Rottweiler or it’s a Pit Bull and it shouldn’t be on an electric dog fence. That’s just not true. We like to say we judge a dog’s candidacy on it’s behavior not it’s breed. The second reason a dog fence might not be the right solution for you at this time is you don’t have the time. Look, regardless of the training package you take there’s approximately a 2-week time period whe
re you’re going to have to work with your dog. This is going to include frequent walks out in the yard with the dog on a leash and although it’s not a big time commitment per se,consistency and frequency are critical to insure that your dog gets trained correctly and completely. If your significant other or you or maybe another responsible adult can’t put the time into this, it’s probably best that you don’t invest in electric dog fence at this time. For all us busy people, what we say is this.Yes it’s going to be a pain in the neck for a couple of weeks but at the end of that time, wow it’s fantastic. In a very short period of time, relatively speaking, your dog is going to be trained and then both you and the dog are going to be free to go out and play any time you want by yourself. If you want more helpful information and answers to questions you might have, please check out our video library and learning center.
