1500+ Dogs Safely Trained To Stay In The Yard

Soon we’ll be at your home to professionally install your Contain My Dog Electric Dog Fence and conduct the initial training. The installation will be completed within a day, though the proper containment training can take 2-3 weeks. There is a lot to learn and absorb in a short time. The emails you will be receiving will be informative and helpful – letting you know what to expect at each stage and what you should be doing with your dog during the training phase. If you need to discuss a specific issue don’t hesitate to call your trainer directly.  Today we’ll review how to prepare your yard and ready your dog for the least stressful and most rapid training for your dog.

Preparing Your Dog

We understand It may seem a bit odd to you to begin training before the containment system is installed however we have learned over the years that preparing your dog now provides the dog with a quicker understanding and more rapid training results. Beginning now, 4-5 times a day, walk your dog on a leash in your yard.  Keep him within (inside) what will be his new boundary area.  When walking your dog in the yard use a flat collar and not a pinch collar or choke collar.  When you want to take your dog for a walk outside of your property take him by leash then put him in the car and drive out past your house.  The experience of an electric dog fence is new to most dogs. This preparation you’re doing will help to reduce the number of new things that are happening so your dog will be more focused on the flags and yard. With preparation training you really are helping your dog’s understanding and making your part a bit easier.

Preparing Your Yard

By now you probably know where you want your dog’s new boundary to be.  If the boundary is going to travel through any wooded areas, please clear a path two feet wide for the installer.   Also, if there are any yard obstructions where the fence boundary will be, please move them aside as well. If you want to help get an idea of where the boundary will be you can use marking flags or sticks to indicate the boundary edges.

Your Contain My Dog Contain & Train system has a transmitter box that sends a signal through the underground wire.  The transmitter is typically placed in a garage, shed or basement. It will need a dedicated outlet (regular 110v).  Wherever you have chosen for us to place this box, please be sure the installer has clear access to that area.

In following state statute  Dig Safe  has been notified. They will mark the area of underground utility cables (if applicable).

Family Instructions:

Now would be a good time to let the other family members know, that, for a few weeks or so the dog will need to be on a leash in the yard for the training process. Your trainer will go over the specific instructions with you. As always we’re here to help you and your dog through training and transition to freedom within your yard. We have prepared for you a handout that includes instructions for family members and any dog care providers that you may use. You can get it HERE.

We’ll see you soon!
